How to Update Your Look Without Spending a Fortune

Are you feeling bored with your look? If you’ve had the same style for the past few years, you might feel that it’s a bit tired, and isn’t showing you at your best.

There are a variety of things you can do to reignite your look, without blowing a hole in your bank balance. Here are some useful tips.

Getting a new look without breaking the bank

Do something different with your hair. If you’re feeling bold, go for a totally new hair-cut (the long bob or ‘lob’ is very on-trend right now). However, if you want to make it even more budget-friendly, just switch up the way you style your ‘do. If you usually wear it down, tie it in a ponytail or plait. Pin back your fringe for a change, or wear a couple of hair-clips. Even an alice band can totally change your appearance.

Or…go for a wig! If you don’t quite dare cut of your hair, then a wig is the perfect solution. You can get good quality wigs at reasonable prices, which let you experiment with different colours and styles, minus the commitment.

Do your make-up differently. It’s so easy to get stuck in a cosmetics rut. Introduce something new to your make-up regime; for example, a smoky eye, rather than your classic beige and brown palette. Go for a bold red lip instead of a nude shade, or use eyeliner liquid rather than pencil. It’s amazing what a big difference these small changes can make.

Add an accessory (or three). Accessories can make an outfit look completely different. For example, a floaty scarf can make a knitted dress suitable for a day out with friends, whereas adding a glitzy pendant necklace makes it ideal for a night on the town.

Keep it simple. You don’t have to go for a complete image overhaul. Look to the celebrities for inspiration on how to keep things straightforward and effortless. You don’t want to look as though you’ve tried too hard to reinvent yourself; it should appear more like a natural, organic process.

Choose a different fragrance. If you’ve been wearing the same perfume for years, now is the time for a change. Go for a scent that’s totally different. For example, if you’ve been wearing floral fragrances for ages, try a fruity or musky aroma instead. You could even wear a masculine scent, which will make a really bold statement. Aventus is a good choice, for example, as it’s still neutral enough to be suitable for even a feminine outfit.

Introduce some layers. Layering is a good way to breathe new life into your style. For example, a grungy cardigan over a blouse immediately transforms your overall look; whereas if you team the blouse up with a smart blazer-jacket, it creates a different look again. If money is tight, check out second-hand clothing sites or vintage shops – you can often find fantastic bargains in places like these.
